The latest update for Marathon has introduced some changes aimed at making the UESC enemies a touch easier to handle. Bungie has decreased their overall strength, dialed back the frequency of those pesky EMP grenade throws, and buffed the ammo in free loadouts. Sounds great on paper, right? However, after spending my lunch hour in the trenches at Maintenance on Dire Marsh, I can say with certainty that the supposed ease hasn’t quite materialized for me.
Despite the adjustments, those UESC foes still have a knack for finding creative ways to take me down. With their relentless aggression and pinpoint tactical maneuvers, I found myself getting knocked out more often than I’d like to admit. The game’s pace remains punishing, and it feels like each engagement still requires careful planning and precise execution.
In a recent statement, Bungie confirmed that they have no plans to make further changes to enemy difficulty. This decision seems rooted in a commitment to maintaining the challenge that has become a signature of the Marathon experience. While some might welcome a less daunting adversary, it’s clear that the game intends to test players’ skills thoroughly. For now, it looks like I’ll be continuing my struggle against these modified opponents, and it’s likely many others will find themselves in the same boat.
