The developer behind Cyberpunk 2077’s ambitious R.E.A.L VR mod says he’s feeling the sting after CD Projekt Red issued a DMCA takedown earlier this week. The mod, which brought a fully immersive VR experience to the sprawling Night City, had quickly captured the imagination of fans eager to see the futuristic world through a new lens. But after the removal, its creator now claims that pirates distributing unauthorized versions of the mod online have effectively made things worse for him. Instead of gaining credit or support for his work, the modder says he’s being “punished” by these piracy efforts, highlighting the complex and frustrating relationship between fan-made content, copyright enforcement, and the communities that spring up around popular games.
