Arc Raiders just wrapped its first Expedition, a fresh take on the prestige or progression reset found in many online games. Instead of a universal wipe, this voluntary, narrative-driven event asked players to collect resources and contribute to a caravan heading out into the unknown. The reward? Tiered bonuses like faster leveling, extra skill points, and bigger stash space. But the final stage saw participants gathering vague, high-value loot worth hundreds of thousands of coins, which some found a bit grindy.
Expeditions aim to offer a lighter touch than the usual game-wide prestiges or seasonal wipes, letting players opt in rather than forcing everyone to start over. According to Embark, just over a million players joined in, which is a solid fraction of Arc Raiders’ 12 million copies sold. About 35 to 40 percent of those participants managed to claim all the Expedition skill points, which design director Virgil Watkins highlighted as a key metric for success.
Looking ahead, the team wants future Expeditions to shift away from the relentless hoarding and fear of missing out that often come with these events. The goal is to keep them engaging and rewarding without turning the experience into a numbers race. It’s an interesting approach that could help Arc Raiders keep its community invested without burnout or frustration.
