Amazon’s ambitious fantasy MMO New World, which later rebranded as New World: Aeternum, is officially on its final countdown. As of yesterday, the game has been pulled from sale and will shut down entirely on January 31, 2027. This marks the end of a turbulent journey for a title that once promised to redefine the MMO landscape with its colonial-era setting and player-driven economy.
The announcement comes after the game’s last major update dropped in October, a final bow before the developers moved on following significant layoffs at Amazon. While New World may no longer be welcoming new adventurers, it will linger for another year, giving its remaining community time to wrap up their stories and bid farewell to Aeternum.
