New documents and videos give us another alleged look at Monolith Productions’ cancelled 2010 Batman game

Monolith Productions’ closure last year hit the Western games scene like a punch you didn’t see coming. The studio behind the intense horror of FEAR and the imaginative brilliance of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War always brought something special, no matter the genre. Now, fresh details are emerging from a discarded hard drive salvaged from their offices, revealing work on a Batman game that never saw the light of day—and it’s not connected to the Arkham series.

These new documents and videos offer a rare glimpse into what could have been a very different take on the Dark Knight, developed for Warner Bros. The project, which dates back to around 2010, showcases Monolith’s signature creativity applied to Gotham, though it ultimately ended up on the cutting room floor. It’s a reminder of the ideas and passion that remain buried when studios shutter, and that even well-regarded developers have projects that never make it to players.
